What Can I Put in a Mixed Non-Hazardous Waste Skip?

Before hiring a skip from Taylors Skip Hire Ltd, please read and understand these guidelines carefully. Our mixed non-hazardous waste skips are designed for general and inert waste, including:

Soil

Garden waste

Paper and plastics

Wood

Old furniture

However, certain waste types are strictly prohibited from being placed in a general waste skip. If you need to dispose of restricted items, please call us on 01342 618918 for a quotation or advice.

Restricted Waste Items & Disposal Options

Some materials require prior arrangement or must be disposed of separately. See below for details:

By Arrangement Only

The following items may be accepted, but only with prior notice:

  • Plasterboard - Special disposal arrangements needed.
  • Asbestos - Must be disposed of in a separate asbestos-only skip.
  • Fridges & Freezers - Contact us before disposal.
  • Televisions / Monitors / Computers - Requires special handling.
  • Mattresses - Can be included, but additional charges apply.
  • Car Batteries - By prior agreement only.

Strictly Prohibited - Call for Information

The following items CANNOT be placed in a general waste skip under any circumstances:

  • Gas cylinders / Empty aerosols
  • Tyres
  • Solvent paint cans / Adhesive tubes / Hilti gun cartridges (Must be completely cleaned before disposal)
  • Clinical or medical waste
  • Solvents and chemicals
  • Liquids of any kind
  • Oil or fuel waste
  • Hazardous or toxic materials
  • Food waste

🌳 Tree Stumps & Roots

  • Large tree stumps and roots over 2 inches in diameter cannot be placed in general waste skips.

🚨 Additional Charges Apply

Placing prohibited items in a general waste skip will result in extra charges. If you're unsure about any waste type, please call us before disposal.

Taylors Skip Hire Ltd - Terms and Conditions

1. General

1.1. Off-Highway Liability

Any order that requires Taylors Skip Hire Ltd to take its vehicles and/or skips off the public highway is at the customer's own risk. The customer accepts full responsibility for any damage caused to property, vehicles, or persons as a result.

1.2. Delays and Supply Issues

Taylors Skip Hire Ltd is not liable for loss or damage resulting from failure to supply or delays caused by factors beyond our control. These may include acts of God, fire, accidents, machinery breakdowns, labour shortages, material shortages, or customer negligence.

1.3. Loading and Unloading Time

The loading and unloading time allowance is 15 minutes. If this is exceeded, Taylors Skip Hire Ltd reserves the right to charge for waiting time.

1.4. Cancellations and Variations

If a customer cancels or significantly alters an order, Taylors Skip Hire Ltd reserves the right to charge for incurred costs, including loss of profit and any other consequential losses.

2. Skip Hire

2.1. Prohibited Waste

The following hazardous materials must not be placed in a skip unless prior written permission is obtained:

  • Asbestos
  • Fridges and freezers
  • Televisions and monitors
  • Tyres
  • Fluorescent sodium lamps
  • Gas cylinders
  • Plasterboard
  • Any hazardous waste as defined by the European Waste Catalogue (Article 1 4 of the Hazardous Waste Directive 91/689/EC)

2.2. Skips on Public Highways

It is the hirer's responsibility to ensure that any skip placed on a public highway has the required local authority permit and is properly lit, covered, and coned off in compliance with the Highways Act 1980. Taylors Skip Hire Ltd can arrange skip permits at an additional cost.

2.3. Skip Overloading

Hirers must ensure that:

  • Skips are not overloaded by weight or volume at collection time.
  • Waste does not exceed the height of the skip.
  • Larger skips (12yd, 14yd, 16yd, 20yd, 40yd Roll-on-Roll-offs) are only used for light waste or filled within legal road weight limits.

Taylors Skip Hire Ltd reserves the right to refuse collection of overloaded skips. Any costs arising from unsafe loads, wasted journeys, or overloading will be passed on to the hirer. Excess charges will apply.

2.4. Skip Placement and Fires

  • Lighting fires in or near skips is strictly prohibited.
  • The hirer is liable for any damage to the skip (excluding fair wear and tear) and will be charged the current replacement price if necessary.
  • Once placed, skips must not be repositioned without prior consent. Moving the skip without authorisation may result in collection issues or additional charges.

2.5. Rental Period and Charges

  • The maximum rental period is 14 days.
  • The hirer must request collection within this period.
  • If collection is not arranged, Taylors Skip Hire Ltd may collect the skip unannounced or apply rental charges:
  • £10 per day for 20yd and 40yd Roll-on-Roll-offs.
  • £5 per day for all other skips.


2.6. Responsibility for the Skip

The hirer remains responsible for the skip until it is collected by a Taylors Skip Hire Ltd vehicle. If the skip is removed while in the hirer's control, the hirer will be charged at full replacement value.

3. Tipping and Waste Disposal

3.1. Environmental Responsibility

Taylors Skip Hire Ltd is fully registered with the Environmental Agency as a licensed waste carrier. All waste disposal sites used by us are correctly licensed and approved.

3.2. Site Use at Customer's Own Risk

Customers using Taylors Skip Hire Ltd disposal sites do so entirely at their own risk. The company accepts no liability for any damage or injury sustained while using these sites.

3.3. Designated Site Areas

Vehicles must only use designated areas within the disposal sites as allocated to them.

3.4. Permitted Waste Only

Only waste that meets the waste permit licences or exemptions will be accepted for disposal.

3.5. Right to Refuse Waste

Taylors Skip Hire Ltd reserves the right to reject any waste materials that are deemed objectionable or unsuitable for disposal.

3.6. Waste Transfer Requirements

Materials will only be accepted from registered waste carriers. Each load must be accompanied by a controlled waste transfer note stating:

  • A description of the waste (including EWC code)
  • The source of the waste
  • The waste carrier's details, including their carrier registration number

This ensures compliance with the Environmental Protection (Duty of Care) Regulations 1991.

4. Sales of Materials

4.1. Purchase of Materials

All materials are sold based on the weight or quality stated on the conveyance note. Once the load is discharged and signed for onsite, Taylors Skip Hire Ltd accepts no further liability.

4.2. Pricing Adjustments

Unless otherwise expressly agreed in writing, prices apply to materials as quoted. If a change in grade, type, or source is required, additional charges may apply.

4.3. Transfer of Risk

Risk in the goods passes to the customer upon delivery.

4.4. Retention of Ownership

All goods remain the property of Taylors Skip Hire Ltd until paid for in full.

5. Payment Terms

5.1. Account Holders

For account holders, payment terms are 30 days from the invoice date, or by the end of the month following delivery, subject to written agreement.

5.2. Non-Account Holders

For non-account holders, payment is required before or upon delivery of the skip.

Taylors Skip Hire Ltd accepts major credit and debit cards, as well as cash payments.
